I hold an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have ten years of working as a professional counsellor. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and work to their ethical framework. I keep myself updated by undertaking continuous professional development and I value learning from each person I work with.
As well as private work, I have worked as a counsellor in a drug and alcohol agency, a college counselling team and as a counsellor for an employee assistance programme.
In terms of counselling theory I work in an integrative way. This means that I draw upon a broad range of counselling theory to support my work. I describe my approach as mainly humanistic and relational but also incorporating psychodynamic and transpersonal theory. I have done further training in CBT and am trained in alcohol and drug counselling.
I too know the highs and lows of life and my own experiences have been wide and varied. Counselling I received in the past helped me to make sense of those experiences, to understand myself differently and develop as a person. My work on myself has led to a greater empathy for others and a deeper understanding of human experience.
I am a wife, mother and grandmother. In the past I have also been a teacher and a carer and have taught trainee counsellors for several years.
I believe that I am warm and approachable and feel that you would experience me as someone that you could trust and feel comfortable with.
