How Can Counselling Help Me?

None of us will live our lives without experiencing sadness, confusion, anxiety or pain at some point.

‘Life is not what it’s supposed to be. It’s what it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.’
(Virginia Satir)

We cannot change what has happened to us but we can understand ourselves better and see things in a different light.  We can begin to ‘cope with it’ better.

Counselling provides an opportunity to experience a relationship where it feels safe enough to speak freely. Working with a trained counsellor can help to unravel the sometimes tangled threads of life and find a way forward.

Having another person listen with compassion and understanding allows us to begin to make meaning of our life experiences, however difficult or distressing. Being heard and accepted for who we really are begins the process of becoming kinder and less critical of ourselves.  We can start to believe in ourselves again.

‘The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.’
(Carl Rogers)

Counselling helps to develop the trust that you are the ‘expert’ on yourself, and empower you to see your way forward.
